The Importance of Having a Daily Schedule

Studies show the average worker is only productive 2 hours and 53 minutes each day. This means in an eight-hour workday, there are more than five hours of wasted time and production. One way to eliminate so much wasted time is to establish a daily routine. Let’s explore why a daily schedule is important for a real estate agent and daily activities that will improve your output and overall success.

Why is a Daily Schedule Important?

While there are many reasons to implement a daily schedule, let’s discuss three benefits.

Time Management: A daily schedule helps you better manage your time and establish a routine. You can manage your time in various ways and implement tricks that work best for you. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder, owns more than 20 versions of the same t-shirt. He explained this is simply part of his routine and it prevents him from wasting too much time on a decision that doesn’t really matter.

To Reach Goals: When you develop a daily schedule, you work on establishing habits that help you set and reach your goals. For example, maybe you want to generate 30 new leads each month. This means you must put in ample time to reach the goal. As part of your routine, you can dedicate one hour after lunch to focus exclusively on generating these leads. You can learn about new tools and resources, improve your social media platforms, take educational classes, etc. However, if you don’t set this time aside, it becomes easy to take long lunch breaks, use this time to attend meetings, browse social media, etc.

You Improve Every Aspect of Your Life: It isn’t just your business that will succeed if you follow a daily schedule, other aspects of your life will fall into place as well. You will be more productive in the office, helping you better balance your work and home life. You will also establish habits and be more likely to maintain them. For example, if you decide that you will go to the gym every morning, this becomes part of your routine. You will be less likely to talk yourself out of going each day, and you will improve your mental health, your energy for the day, and even your mood.

What Type of Activities Should I Include in My Daily Schedule?

For a real estate agent, you need to determine what type of activities will help you reach your goals. For some goals — such as generating 30 new leads a month — you need to create a detailed plan and implement each step into your schedule. Below are several common tasks that many real estate agents include in their own schedule and it may work for you as well.

Business Building

Dedicate several hours a day to generate leads, schedule appointments, and prospecting. This is also an excellent time to work on your website and social media content to build traffic and gain a following.

Communication

Reach out to past, current, and even potential clients. Connect with your leads and ask about their current status in the home-buying or selling process.

Administrative Tasks

There is much busy work required to keep your office running smoothly. If possible, delegate some of these responsibilities to other individuals in your office.

Rest and Relaxation

Putting in more hours at work does not mean more work is accomplished. One study at Boston University found that managers could not tell the difference between an employee who worked 80 hours a week and one who pretended to work that many hours. Plus, overworking can affect your mental health. In Canada, more than 36% of residents said that several times throughout the year they felt so much stress that it impacted their day-to-day life. In addition, 24% of Canadians said there were some instances where they felt so much stress they could not even cope with their challenges.

Be Consistent

If you do not have a consistent daily schedule, sit down and develop one. Consider the most important tasks that you want to accomplish in the day and ensure you schedule time for them. You may find that your day-to-day productivity increases and you have a better home/life balance.
